Lee County Area Technology Center and Hazard Community and Technical College are partnering to offer students in the Medical Office Procedure’s class an opportunity to receive college credit for MIT 104, Medical Insurance. The students from this program are the first to get to take this class during high as dual credit. The class came about when Charmoin Holliday of HCTC and Francis Davis, Health Science Instructor at Lee ATC, wanted to offer the students more opportunities. “We need to offer students support with the distance learning classes” was what Charmoin said, as she shared her vision for a supportive distance-learning model. This support will build stronger students as they do true college work, but still have backing with in secondary education. Francis will be a facilitator of the learning, as she is inside the classroom with the students each day. Charmoin will direct the instruction and will also visit the classroom at different times during the semester. McKenzie Slone, a student, said she is excited about the opportunity to get college credit and progress in her choose field. The students will be accessing a WorkReady Scholarship to cover the cost of the college credits. Dr. Lindon, president of HCTC, has waived the book fee to help this dual credit project to continue to grow.
