SIXTH GRADE SHOWCASE
These schools were: Estill County Middle School, Foley Middle School, and Owsley County Middle School. The event on December 8th and the 10th was hosted by Owsley County Middle School with Mrs. Alice Sipple serving as chief official for the competition.
Students competed in the areas of quick recall and written assessment (Fine Arts, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies). After tabulation of all eight events, the school with the highest number of points was Foley Middle School of Berea, Kentucky.
In the written assessments, Kara Beth Williams, daughter of Karen and Phillip Angel and Wallace Williams of Lee County, placed fourth in science and fifth in mathematics. Cierra Charles, daughter of Lori Charles of Lee County, placed third in mathematics. Kayla Combs, daughter of Jessica Bowling of Lee County, placed sixth in social studies.
The Quick Recall team received fourth place. Team members were: Captain Kara Beth Williams, Cierra Charles, Kayla Combs, Autume Lutes, Madison Kehler, Amanda Kash Rice, and Mahalla Kash.
Serving as an official for Lee County Middle School was Mrs. Kim Williams (Proctor and Quick Recall). Several parents showed their support to the team by attending the event. They were Mrs. Karen Angel, Mrs. Cindy Lutes, Ms. Angela Kash, and Mrs. Rosalie Kash.
Mrs. Kim Williams and Mrs. Jeanette Brandenburg coach the Lee County Middle School Academic Team. The next event will be the District Governor’s Cup, which will be held on January 19th and January 23rd, 2009.
