MEMORANDUM

TO:        School Employees, Parents, Guardians and Students

FROM:          Dr. Jim Evans, Lee County Schools Superintendent

RE:         School Use of Kentucky State Police K-9 Search Services

      DATE:           March 15, 2019

Lee County Schools recognizes the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment where students can focus on learning and growth.  The district also recognizes the need for transparency and appropriate communications regarding issues pertaining to student welfare.

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance student safety and well-being, Lee County Schools and the Kentucky State Police have formed a partnership for the utilization of K-9 (drug dog) services.  The K-9 Unit will conduct random searches in accordance with Lee County School District Policy 09.436.  The school will be placed on lockdown status while the K-9 Unit is on school grounds.  Students will be made aware of the reason for the lockdown.

Please contact me at 606-464-5000 if I may address any concerns or answer any questions regarding this partnership and service.
